England vs Germany – 27th Jun 2010
England’s World Cup campaign came to a humiliating and controversial end  as Germany thrashed England 4-1 to make it into the Group of 8 stage.
Matthew  Upson scored before half time to give England a lifeline. This was  after Germany took a two nil lead with a goal from Miroslav Klose and  Lukas Podolski.
But right after the goal, in a grim reminder of Geoff Hurst’s goal  that helped England to victory over West Germany in 1966 World Cup  final, Lampard’s superb loft which fell into the goal but popped out of  it didnt make its way to the score board as the referee disallowed it.
This led to David Beckham to step in and join the protest at half  time.
Lampard struck the bar after the break. England  dominated the first few minutes of the second half. But it took only 3  minutes to lose it as Thomas Mueller scored twice. This clearly sent  Germany to the last 8 stage.
England’s weak and sloppy defense was exposed as both the Lampard  and Upson gifted Germany their two goals. Wayne Rooney will return home  with minimum impact to the world cup. It might be very difficult for  England to get over the defeat.
James’s saves saved England from falling further from the game as  Klose capitalize on the weak defense. After the first goal England came  back hard and levelled. But then Germany came back to take the lead.
It all came down to the controversial moment where the goal was  disallowed. Who knows it all could have changed after that.
Well  after that, it was Germany’s game as they thrashed England and took an  unassailing 4-1 lead. Only excuse English fans have from being  humiliated by German’s: The goal that did not count.
